From the opening sing-along “Different” which celebrates diversity, on musician/singer/songwriter Gina Ferragame’s second album for children, to the soulful piano closing title ballad, the CD wows. Between tracks 1 and 15, lies a treasure trove of riches, including the hoedown “Feelings,” which celebrates diverse moods and emotions, the comforting “My Little One,” a jazzy number about the importance of “Family,” and “Stand Together,” an uplifting song which extols the power of community. Ferragame’s strong voice exudes a child-like innocence, much like Victoria Williams. Her duet with guest vocalist Jeff Twardzik on the lilting “Forever My Dear” is reminiscent of Williams and Mark Olson’s work as The Original Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers. Other album highlights include “Purple Turtle,” which recognizes the gifts of family and forgiveness; “My, My, My” which is a lovely, lazy soft-shoe; and an empowering rap song called “Girls Are Strong,” aided by guest vocalist Alicia Lister. Her work as both a music therapist, and in hospice has obviously informed her ability to express empathy and healing in her songwriting for children and families. While much of Ferragame’s music such as “Here,” “We Need Love,” and “I Like Hanging With You” contain timely messages of solidarity, empowerment, social justice and community, they expertly hold together as delightful and melodic songs that the whole family will savor.
