Aprende Español en la Playa
Juana la Iguana en la Playa (Play and Learn Spanish – Beach) is a vocabulary-learning app featuring a friendly, musical iquana and her friends as they explore the beach. Children learn beach-themed vocabulary by playing through a series of activities. There are memory matching games, puzzles, songs, and games that teach players the importance of cleaning up the beach. The games are short, simple, and easy-to-play; no navigation is required as the end of one game loads the beginning of the next. The graphics are bright, colorful, and inviting, and the characters age appropriate and engaging.
One of the best features of the app is that the image, written word, and spoken word are presented simultaneously, which helps children make the connections and solidifies learning. Another nice feature is that the app includes suggestions for non-tablet-based extension activities such as making maracas, listening for nature sounds, or exploring the textures of rocks and other outdoor items. Although the games may be too simple and repetitive for players at the older end of the age spectrum, younger children will enjoy their days at the beach.
