Blue Skies and Sunny Days
Frances England heralded her arrival on the children’s music scene in 2007 with her debut CD, “Fascinating Creatures.” This singer-songwriter-musician extraordinaire has remained ever since among the field’s top artists with her signature brand of child-respecting, lyric creativity; evocative acoustic arrangements (with accompaniment by other fine musicians), and the melodic, near-whisper of her confiding soprano. The “blue sky, sunny day” theme of England’s new release offers listeners of all ages (adults, too) a heart-happy uplift through observances of those days in childhood when everything goes right (“Carefree”—dancing rhythms; “Good Day”—finger-snapping bounce), when the need to sit still in school competes with the yearning to stretch muscles, run and climb “Into the Wild”; when a parent and child “play hooky,” taking together time on a “Perfect Tuesday Afternoon,” with biscuits and tea, and books to share. England’s authentic warmth and her ability to craft her songs from the perspectives of both parent and child infuse every track.
