Boxitale: Knights of Nature
Boxitale: Knights of Nature is a combination board/video game for one to four players aged seven through thirteen years. The game’s story is presented through a mobile device (not included) while the actual game play takes place in the physical world. At various points during the video story, challenges are presented and streaming is paused so that players can create solutions from materials provided.
In Knights of Nature, IRL players join Alen and Dama as they protect the animals of El-Animal from evil forces. Players may have to build a ladder, create an animal helper, or any number of things; they then snap a picture of their creation and it appears in the video so that the story can continue.
Although the game does involve some screentime, the majority of playtime is on the “board,” the three-dimensional arena that players create at the beginning of the game. It takes creativity, imagination, dexterity, and problem-solving to play through each of the two 45-minute episodes.
