Gina Ferragame, a Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter, trained music therapist, and preschool music teacher began “Music With Gina” as a class designed for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and caregivers, combining movement, playing, and singing. On her first album Cardinal Cardinal, she brings together her strong friendly voice, seventeen original songs, performed on guitar and piano, and supported by some fine accompanying musicians. The music includes lively sing-a-long and movement songs such as the opening “Hello Song,” the affectionate “It’s A Special Day,” the catchy “Lovey,” and the sprightly “Green Frog.” Songs that are instantly appealing and fun to sing with include, the smile-inducing “Friendship,” the percussive, day-naming “Days of the Week,” the ornithological “Tweedly Dee,” and the animal-mimicking movement song “Everybody Dance.” Her skillful use of repetitive phrases allows for easy song learning. Her story-songs such as “Alien” and “Dragon” add some nice diversity to the album, and the CD’s title track is a sweet ode to a favorite feathered friend. The recording closes with a gentle and sentimental dedication to her children in “You’re My Little One.”
