The Code Piano kit contains a basic circuit board with eight buttons, a speaker, and a USB connection. Also included is a USB cable and a set of cards with hints and suggestions.
After downloading and installing the software on a compatible computer—Mac, Windows and Chromebook— the user can immediately start with simple C ++ coding projects. The program provides a basic set of code instructions for each new concept, which the user can then modify and adjust in a sandbox environment, to see how each programmatic function works. There are a wide range of concepts presented, from the basics of understanding a loop command, to randomization, to programming each button on the circuit board to play unique sound effects.
Due to the heavily text-based nature of coding, concepts and reading level, we suggest this product is best suited to 9-13 year-olds. This engineer-designed kit will reward young learners who are really interested in music and intrigued by how computer code works. It is best for motivated kids, who are patient and persistent and willing to work through the tutorials.
