This candy-colored CGI series celebrates the Maker Movement . . . with an out-of-this-world twist. Arty is an alien and he and his squishy little buddy Epiphany celebrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design, and Mathematics) and Arty and pals create solutions – literally &ndash with logic, experimentation, and an exciting supply of doo-dads and thingamabobs.
In this special holiday-themed episode, Arty plans to surprise his family with an ornament cookie, but when the little gingerbread guy magically comes to life, he seeks a life more adventurous than simply perching atop the tree. As he chases the mischievous cookie around town, he visits pals and learns about their holiday traditions for celebrating Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. In between chasing the gingerbread cookie-come-to-life, Arty and his pals make crafts to decorate and celebrate their individual holidays. A nicely produced live-action sequence features young children making crafts for Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hanukkah, too. The activities use common items in a family craft box and are shown at an easy pace so young viewers can follow along.
Like regular episodes of Creative Galaxy, this special holiday edition includes musical numbers, art instruction, and some attention to pre-K skills such as color and shape recognition. And, like regular episodes, the format promotes STEAM, critical and creative thinking, and problem-solving, with a healthy dose of social and emotional lessons mixed in for good measure. The program offers a sweet, inclusive, and celebratory holiday vibe that will appeal to eager preschoolers.
