Veteran children’s music composer Bobby Susser, whose classic “Bobby Susser Songs for Children” series is now part of the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings catalog, is in his mid-70s and still in his element. With an academic background in child development and decades of pop music expertise, Susser crafts children’s songs that are tuneful, encouraging, and shaped with positivity and affirmation. Performed by the professional Bobby Susser Singers, with the Bobby Susser Children’s Chorus, Susser’s new album is about feeling connected with one another, appreciating the world, and emphasizing the importance of physical movement. Two highlights: The title song, offering listeners exercise fun with a smooth percussive beat, and “A Brand New Day,” honoring nature’s changing sights and sounds, encapsulated in this lovely lyric: “We can sway, to the song of the day.” At Susser’s website, teachers and parents can access lyrics and activities related to each track.
