Green on Green
This seasonal celebratory poem begins in the springtime ending with the refrain, “Yellow on Green.” Summer features “Blue on Green” Autumn is brown, winter is white, until we return to springtime with “Green on Green.”
In the first double-page spread, the mother – is she pregnant? – hands her child a yellow flower. As we progress through the seasons, it becomes apparent that the mother is indeed pregnant; until the last springtime illustration in which the child hands mother and baby a yellow flower. This is a powerful blending of Dianne White’s sparse but eloquent rhyming text and Felicita Sala’s lovely symbolic illustrations.
