Husbandry can be challenging; Hay Stax, makes it fun. Ranging in difficulty from beginner to advanced, 36 puzzles task the player with arranging up to nine colorful animal shapes (and sizes) to fit precisely on the printed grid—without covering an empty space within or outside the grid border. Each double-sided puzzle card shows the puzzle number, the level of difficulty, how many and which animals are needed and whether one, two, or three layers are needed to complete the puzzle.
Don’t start crowing just yet. Some of these mind-blowing spatial reasoning challenges require that the animals be positioned laying down, standing up, upside down or even placed in between their barnyard mates. The illustrated instruction card had our testers chomping at the bit to begin. A few peacocks in the group were quietly happy to see that the numbered solution cards correspond to the numbered puzzle cards. Although designed as a single player game, our testers also played collaboratively and set up teams for timed competition.
