Sir Paul McCartney of Beatles and Wings fame has written a whimsical tale of a lively grandfather (“Grandude”) taking his grandchildren (the “Chillers”) on eventful adventures via a magical compass. Each adventure—skimming the ocean while riding flying fish, racing cowboys through the desert, picnicking on a grassy hill—ends in disaster and a near escape, until it’s back home and time for bed, with a hint of more magic travels to come. Kathryn Durst’s droll illustrations are a perfect match for this gentle flight of fancy.
