Father and Mother Red-tailed Hawk have three hungry chicks to feed. Mother Hawk stays with the chicks while Father Hawk goes hunting for food – not an easy task. He perches in high places and scans for small animals with his sharp eyes. The chipmunk escapes; the sparrows escape; finally, after a long day, Father Hawk catches a squirrel. He returns triumphant to his nesting family waiting to be fed.
Author Maria Gianferrari and Illustrator Brian Floca present a day in the life of hunter and observer. The exquisite illustrations and the matter of fact tone inform, but do not judge.
