Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild

Ages: 13 - 16Producer: Litton Entertainment Rating: TV G - General Audience

This reality television series, hosted by dedicated zookeeper and committed conservationist Jack Hanna, invites viewers to join him on exciting adventures around the world.

In Swamp Safari, Jack and his wife take a tour through the Everglades with their grandson, complete with alligator and water buffalo sightings.  Later, they visit a wildlife park and see its experts interact with gators while providing more facts about the species.

In Africa’s Big Five, a visit to the Shamwari Game Reserve provides an up-close look at the “big five” species most appreciated by animal enthusiasts: Cape buffalo, elephants, lions, rhinos, and leopards. At one point, Jack and his guests exit the rugged vehicle and continue their explorations on foot, coming breathtakingly close to a pride of lions.

And, in Spectacular Serengeti, the African plains offer opportunities to see cheetahs, lions, and zebras.  Jack and his guests visit a Maasai school in Tanzania; then it’s off to Serengeti National Park to learn about the annual migration of wildebeest.  As Jack’s daughter explains, “sirenget” is actually a Maasai word which means “a place where the land goes on forever,” and indeed the stunning nature photography supports that definition.

Experts from the locales explain wildlife behaviors, with pop-up graphics sharing additional animal facts. Episodes also stress conservation and respect for the environment, with segments featuring experts from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
