La La La: A Story of Hope
The only words throughout this lovely book by Newbery Award-winning author Kate DiCamillo are “La La La,” sung by a lonely little girl who hopes someone will sing back to her. She sings to the trees, to the pond, and to the night sky, finally climbing a ladder to sing to the moon. Her joy, when she knows she has been heard, tugs at the heartstrings. With exquisite artistry, illustrator Jaime Kim used watercolor, sumi ink, and digital techniques to capture the little girl’s shifting moods, images of nature, glorious starshine, and the memorably tender face of the moon.
