Little Chatterbox is a language-learning app designed to teach young children vocabulary by combining colorful and attractive images with videos of native speakers pronouncing the words. Extensive research has demonstrated that children learn well from each other, so the words are presented by other children. The app offers nine languages including US English, British English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, and Japanese.
The free version of the app includes access to only ten words. However, it does provide the opportunity to see if the app is going to be a good fit for your child. Sets of 120 words can be unlocked for $3.99 each or all 300 words can be unlocked for $9.99. If all sets are purchased, children will have access to 490 clickable objects on seventeen town-themed screens. There’s a school, a hospital, a supermarket, a zoo, and even an aquarium. So, there is quite a bit of variety in the types of words that children learn.
Although we prefer apps that focus on interactive features and activities, this is a starter app to help with vocabulary development in native and foreign languages.
