Mind Your Numbers
Mind Your Numbers is a two-player game of arithmetic and strategy. Each player has a limited set of number cards (from 0 to 9) and mathematical symbols (three each of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Players take turns putting down a symbol and then a numeral; the four cards are paired up into two math facts, and the player with the operation that produces the higher result wins a point for the round. At the end of nine rounds, players also receive bonus points for having produced results that match their own hidden “mystery number,” and the player with the most points wins.
This game is a solid choice for elementary students to practice math facts. The strategies of the game are not widely varied or complex enough to continue to interest older players, but there are enough twists (realizing, for example, that if your opponent plays a multiplication symbol, a ‘0’ is the number card to minimize their score, but a ‘1’ might win as well) to keep the game interesting for younger players.
