Nick Jr Block Party: Major Math
Nick Jr.’s most popular characters prove it’s hip to be square . . . literally. This series of digital shorts reimagines characters from popular Nick Jr. shows as colorful cubes then casts them in short, whimsical plots.
In the 5-minute spot Major Math, “mathletes” try to complete obstacle courses but they must use basic math and geometry skills to win. First, competitors follow a pattern of shapes to reach the winner’s platform. In another challenge, competitors determine the difference between backwards and forwards to reach the finish line. The next couple of challenges teach young viewers about the concept of direction. Scaling a wall helps the Block characters learn about “up”; and then, a ride down a twisty slide illustrates the concept of “down.” Finally, competitors learn to count by 10s as they scale obstacles to reach the “50” level.
If your kids are already fans of Nick Jr. children’s programs, expect them to like Nick Jr. Block Party segments, too. True, Block Party offers an array of toys, crafts, and online games to complement it, but for all that ancillary marketing, these digital short segments still stand alone as pleasing educational content offered up in manageable small bites.
