Niko and the Sword of Light

Ages: 6 - 10Producer: Amazon Studios Rating: TV G - General Audience

This animated Amazon Original series features 10-year-old Niko, a likable blend of superhero ready to conquer villains and earnest little boy who understands the importance of a good snack break.

Niko is the last of his kind in an eerie world that turns innocent creatures into monsters.  It’s up to Niko and brave Princess Lyra to restore light to the land, and help the affected creatures return to their original forms.  It’s a tall task for a 10-year old but with quick wits, critical thinking, and a magic sword, Niko gets the job done.

In The Caterpillar Train, an enormous evil force called Dark Champion pursues the good guys, but what are their alternatives when their escape aircraft is damaged?   In The Forgotten Fortress, a forgetfulness spell threatens to wipe the heroes’ memories clean of their very identities. It’s a race against time to hold onto a map that will help them retain their memories. And Niko’s quest comes to a climax in The Balance of Power when he goes on a journey to discover his life’s true purpose.

Some of the shadowy monsters and chase scenes may be too intense for kids on the younger end of the 6 – 10 year-old range, but Niko does represent honor and justice, and the violent clashes are tempered by the fact that Niko’s sword shoots beams of light that turn bad guys good. For kids who enjoy a good quest, consider Niko is a suitable companion.
