Ooze Labs: Alien Slime Lab
What’s not to find fun and intriguing about an Alien Slime Lab kit? Once again, Thames & Kosmos brings science to the fiction.
Here, slime-crazed young scientists, transformed into extraterrestrial researchers, are on a mission to classify UFOs: Unidentified Funky Oozes. The 28-piece chemistry kit centers around the experiment guide and includes: a base station with rods/clips/connectors, plastic scalpel, alien head stamp, large test tube with lid, brain cutter, large pipette, petri dish, syringe, small test tube with lid, spatula, tweezers, googly eyes (2), 4 packs of different color slime powder, one pack of glitter, and a sticker sheet.
The 24-page illustrated manual is clear and comprehensive. Once the lab is assembled, each of the four assignments details the experiments (rehydrate the yellow alien slime), lists materials needed, describes how to conduct the experiment, and gives a “What’s happening” segment for each of the ten experiments. The guide also poses questions for researchers to answer once they’ve completed the experiments.
Our testers agreed on many things: First, this lab kit is great fun. Young chemists thoroughly enjoyed the mixing, testing, questioning, and ooze factor. Some testers reported scientists run amok: scampering around the house trying to figure out together which slime reflected light, and which one was light sensitive. Second, as the manual describes, this kit is to be used with an adult. And last, but not least, where can they order more slime powder?
