Peg and Pog
Join Peg and Pog, as they play to learn in one of six languages: American English, British English, French, Spanish, Portugese, or Mandarin. Eight attractively illustrated, interactive scenes populated by themed animals/objects that serve as vocabulary builders. The most extensive scene by far is the grocery store where Peg, Pog, and their friends move around the store collecting fruits, vegetables, pasta, and even tofu! Several nature scenes (i.e., the ocean, the arctic, and the African plains) teach a wide variety of animal names and landscape features (not to mention silly animal sounds). Peg and Pog even travel to outer space to learn the names of the planets and other celestial bodies. And, when they’re finished adventuring, there’s a dressing room to explore and a bedroom full of toys to enjoy.
The interactive scenes are engaging and entertaining and serve as a solid introduction to the vocabulary words by linking the image with the spoken word. Additionally, by tapping a button in the upper right corner, children can access the vocabulary presented as the image, the spoken word, and the written word. This links the three together and helps solidify learning in a way that supports multi-modal learning.
The Parental Control Panel has settings for turning sound, music, and dialog off. Usage/progress statistics are not available. Despite some navigation issues this is a playful way to teach children a wide spectrum of vocabulary in not only a foreign, but their own language as well.
