A decidedly non-starchy card game for 3-6 players ages 7+, Potato Pirates has a back story: due to a programming error, the legendary Potato King is simultaneously stuck in seven different places. Players are challenged to rescue all seven Potato Kings from the Deadlock of Doom, while keeping the enemies at bay. To do so, players must use basic computational thinking to plan attacks and eliminate enemy ships.
For kids learning functions and coding like loops and If:Else structure conditionals using only computers, this “unplugged” game will really reinforce the concepts. Fully baked with puns about potatoes, this fun game kept a group of 7-10 year olds engaged for quite a while. The illustrated instructions are clearly written and offer a programming logic guide, game variations and solace for noncoding adults who have joined the game.
