Professor Maxwell’s 4D Chef
This cooking kit blends cooking with a dash of augmented reality and a pinch of science together into some tasty fun. Designed to be used with a mobile phone and the included AR headset, kids work to create recipes while seeing the science that goes into mixing ingredients and cooking. Included in the box is a cookbook of recipes and science concepts; chef’s hat and apron; cooking utensils such as, measuring cups, measuring spoons, a spatula, a whisk, and more.
Our young testers enjoyed following the recipes (written in a user-friendly manner for children) and learning from the science tidbits. However, the AR experience is limited to an animated character talking through a few food science concepts, and there isn’t any animation or visualization of the concepts to help demonstrate them. That said, our parent testers were pleased that the fun of the kit engaged kids in developing cooking and kitchen skills, briefly turning the tables on the daily question, “What’s for dinner?”
