Ranger Rick Magazine
Ranger Rick is a nature conservation magazine that provides informative articles, comic strips, and activities for kids interested in animals (namely, a lot of kids). Each issue highlights a few different wild animals, some of which are endangered. At least one article is generally seasonal; the April 2017 issue featured “April-fool” animals who camouflage and the May 2017 issue featured a family who grows a city garden. Sometimes, a special article will simply explore some interesting facet of animal life, such as the varied uses of animal tails or the animal motions that have inspired yoga poses. A running comic strip, “Ranger Rick’s Adventures,” follows the exploits of a group of animal friends who encounter conservation-related challenges and learn how best to interact with wildlife. Readers contribute riddles, letters, and questions for Ranger Rick, and nature-related puzzles and word games round out each issue.
Ranger Rick continues to be a reliably excellent magazine. Its range of articles and activities will interest children who love to read, as well as those who prefer outdoor activities or puzzles. The content is informative and appealingly written for young readers; the topics are well chosen, creative, and intriguing; the photos and visual design are beautiful.
