Remote-Control Machines: Farm

Ages: 6 and upManufacturer: Thames & Kosmos

In this “Oh that’s how that works!” construction and experiment kit, player/learners build four farm equipment vehicles and four special attachments and use a multi-channel, radio-frequency remote-control unit to make things work and move.

The tractor drives in forward and reverse and can turn left and right. Future Farmers of America will see just how the attachments (a cultivator, disc harrow, hay rake, and seeder) can change its function according to the season’s needs. The combine moves in realistic speed, the farm truck has a spiffy turning radius, and swathing is made easier with the windrower. All vehicles sporting a John Deere/Kabota combo color theme.

Our testers, from science teacher moms to weekend farmers, were delighted to work through the 64-page fully illustrated manual and help children learn about the science behind the machines, as well as soil chemistry and preparation. The 355-piece, 8 experiment kit delivers a big yield to families interested in small farms, agribusiness, machines and their mechanisms.
