Spanish for Kids: La Gran Colección

Ages: 2 - 7Producer: Whistlefritz LLC

Language education media company Whistlefritz presents La Gran Colección Spanish.  The product is available as a set including 5 x DVDs and 4 x CDs; or, as a digital download.

Whistlefritz products use the language immersion method, meaning all content is instructed in the language being taught.  Body language, inflection, and the use of props and other elements provide additional context clues to help little viewers understand the lessons.  Spanish vocabulary and basic syntax are conveyed through a lively collection of animation, puppetry, music, text-on-screen graphics, and live-action elements. It offers a likable cast of adults and kids, often speaking directly to the camera to encourage little viewers to dance and sing along, and prompt them to answer simple questions.  Parent/Teacher Translation Guides also are available at the Whistlefritz website.

In La Gran Colección Spanish, lessons take on a festive tone, capitalizing on celebrations.  Video elements include La Fiesta De Fritzi (Fritzi’s Party), Vamos a Jugar (Let’s Play), and Los Animales (Animals).   CDs provide uptempo Latin rhythms in Cha Cha Cha; ¡A Bailar!; Carnaval; and ¡Sabor!¡Sabor!, by the way, is a common exclamation people call out when they hear great music, and the energetic tunes here are likely to have kids shouting that phrase.

Immersion programs but best suited to those who understand it takes longer-term exposure and repetition for kids to build language proficiency but if you have the patience for this particular educational practice, La Gran Colección Spanish is a dynamic tool.
