The Bravest Knight
Knights are known for being brave and bold. Hulu’s The Bravest Knight stays true to that tradition by presenting an endearing animated series about a young girl named Nia who aspires to knighthood . . . and is encouraged every step of the way by her two loving fathers.
The LGBTQ+ representation in this devoted family is beautifully handled, treated neither as a novelty nor a special circumstance requiring lengthy explanations. The fathers parent their child with patience, love, and the guidance necessary for their girl to grow socially and emotionally (just as all knights must).
Based on an e-book titled The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived, this series spotlights Cedric and tales he tells his daughter about his earlier life as a pumpkin farmer who became a knight. The world is filled with trolls, giants, dragons, wizards, and quests, and challenges require quick wit more often than physical brawn. That’s the case in Cedric & the Dragon. Rather than slaying the fierce creature, Cedric and his friends have to solve a complex riddle to get past the dragon and complete their quest.
Voice talent is provided by T.R. Knight as Sir Cedric; Wilson Cruz as Prince Andrew; and Storm Reid as Nia. Additional voice talent in the series includes Steven Weber, Wanda Sykes, RuPaul, and Christine Baranski. Intended for kids ages 6 – 10, expect sweet storylines about determination, problem-solving, positive choices, diverse and supportive families, and learning important lessons when confronted with life’s challenges.
