The Moblees / Series 1
Ever wonder what would happen if The Wiggles had kids? Wonder no longer because The Moblees offers up a bright, song-filled, movement-packed series to encourage kids to make fun physical activity a daily priority.
Wildly-garbed human Moblees are joined by puppets and animated characters to demonstrate dance moves, imaginative play activities with a focus on pantomime, and musical numbers meant to get little kids up, movin’, and groovin’. Segments promote “funnercize” and “Moblee Motion,” and even some commotion, all in service of inspiring activity. Short videos feature real preschoolers modeling physical challenges, such as balancing on one foot while brushing their teeth.
Plots are extremely basic and serve as connective tissue to introduce a movement concept, allowing the Moblees to jolt into action – and hopefully inspire viewers to do the same. The music is uncomplicated, too, which may feel mind-numbing to parents who hear it over and over, but on the plus side makes it easier for very young children to comprehend lyrics and follow the instructions. Parents, beware, though: There’s so much going on that kids could just sit back and take it all in as eye-candy.
Although the production elements feel familiar, The Moblees does promote a worthwhile goal — as long as kids actually move while they watch it.
