The Stinky & Dirty Show
This animated series from Amazon features two likable heroes: Stinky the garbage truck and Dirty the backhoe loader. Each half-hour episode offers two separate stories showing Stinky and Dirty tackling a problem. These best buds are willing to stick with it until they find a solution, which usually requires a lot of trial and error.
In an episode titled The Stinky And Shmirty Show, Dirty is in the middle of a game when he’s called away on a job. Not ready to end their play, the duo makes a replica named “Shmirty.” But, alas, Shmirty isn’t quite the playmate Stinky had hoped for. He sits still when he’s supposed move, and wanders off in the wrong direction when he’s supposed to sit still. It’s back to the drawing board – literally – as Stinky sketches an improved design, and after several attempts, lands on a “what if” that offers the most control over the invention’s movements. In Moon Chasers, a game of spaceship turns into an odd game of chase with the moon. It takes brainstorming, good manners, and a pal named Spacy to find a solution.
Kids will like Stinky and Dirty – the characters – because they are, well, stinky and dirty. Parents will like The Stinky & Dirty Show because it models that old adage: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again—and, hey, if you can work in a few cute tunes and crack corny jokes in the process, all the better.
