Teddy Fitzroy, child detective extraordinaire, is ready for a little break from detective work and its dangers. He’s looking forward to relaxing and camping at his friend’s ranch, especially since his friend Sage has promised that an especially exciting surprise is waiting at the ranch. But Teddy and his friends are fated to be dragged into another mystery. Sage’s exciting surprise: a full tyrannosaur skull has been excavated on the ranch! The mystery: someone has stolen the skull (not an easy task considering that the skull weighed five hundred pounds). Against his better judgment, Teddy agrees to help track down the skull’s thief, with the help of his friends. Along the way, Teddy and his friends encounter a few more problems to solve—like stopping an unscrupulous reptile house from selling dangerous exotic snakes to members of the public.
Stuart Gibbs’s FunJungle mystery series combines animal education and mystery adventure as it follows Teddy Fitzroy, whose parents live and work at the FunJungle Zoo and who consequently finds himself trying to stop all kinds of schemes involving the unethical treatment of animals. Gibbs’s writing is fast-paced and entertaining; and while the characters may be wholly unbelievable, they are engaging and knowledgeable about wild animals. Kids who like a good action-packed adventure will enjoy this latest addition to the series.
