Under the Big Umbrella
Rockin’ rhythms and dance-happy tunes wrap around messages encouraging inclusion, kindness, and self-respect in this uplifting new album from Brady Rymer and his Little Band That Could. Rymer applies his signature pairing of heart and dynamic musical chops to well-crafted original songs and covers of songs by Jimmy Cliff, Diana Ross, Woody Guthrie, and the Beatles. A sampling: the affirming “Smile Shop” (“come on in and browse awhile”), the charming, layered “Different Is Beautiful (Like a Rainbow),” and the all-embracing, brass-bright title track where “there’s room for everyone” to “dance the night away.” Rymer’s cadre of musicians includes guest vocalists Sonia De Los Santos (on Guthrie’s “Don’t You Push Me Down”) and David Gibb (on the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends”), who add to the uplifting fun, along with children’s artists and elementary school choir students and their music teachers.
