Way Past Mad
Keya’s younger brother Nate ruins everything. He messes up her room, feeds her breakfast to the dog, and even ruined her favorite hat – which astute observers will note as a fabled pussy hat worn in the 2017 Women’s March in Washington DC.
Keya is so mad that she stomps off to school kicking everything in her path. She’s the kind of mad that “starts and swells and spreads like a rash.” Keya’s so mad that she doesn’t even wait for her best friend Hooper. When he asks her why, she shouts “I don’t even like you.” Keya says her mad made her say it.
Young readers will learn that friendships are important, being mad can make a lot go wrong, but a sincere apology can make things right.
