Wild Kratts: Extreme Predators
The appeal of Wild Kratts magazine is more about wild animals than it is the TV adventures of the Kratts themselves. Adhering to a reliable formula, each edition revolves around a theme, such as predators or sea creatures, and features a wild animal within that theme. One or more of the Kratts’ team explains a few facts about the animal in speech bubbles, on a spread that contains some combination of illustrations and photos of the animal, as well as an activity such as a themed maze, word search, or crossword puzzle. Each magazine contains a fold-out poster.
Many kids love to collect facts about animals and find joy and interest simply in looking at page after page of pictures and quick facts about the animals they love. The Wild Kratts magazine is well designed for this purpose; it is set up in much the same way that many beginning dinosaur and shark books are. The magazine also does a good job integrating activities throughout the magazine rather than relegating them to the end. A good choice for young readers who love animals and will keep their issues to flip through them repeatedly, enjoying them again and again.
