Zap Zap Kindergarten Math
What do you get when you cross a space adventure game (complete with daring rescues) with kindergarten math skills? Zap!Zap Kindergarten Math, an educational app by Visual Math Interactive for children aged three through six years. Children play through a series of space-themed mini-games available in nine languages (e.g., English, French, Spanish, Chinese, etc.). By progressing through the games, children learn and practice number recognition, counting, greater-than/less-than, addition, subtraction, and more.
The mini-games are easy-to-understand and simple-to-play, but engaging and progressively leveled so children don’t become frustrated or bored. Children may practice greater-than and less-than in a fishing game, place the correct number of passengers in a space taxi, or count space aliens. During the games correct answers are encouraged and incorrect answers are gently corrected with visual explanations.
Each mini-game has five levels and once they have been completed, children are shown their progress and award life points, puzzle pieces, and even space ships. This encourages children to keep playing. The graphics are bright and colorful, the animations engaging, and the verbal feedback encouraging. And, the combination of learning modalities (e.g., visual, auditory, and motor) assist learning. In general, this app is a fun way to get children interested in practicing critical math concepts and skills.
